Flexera to acquire Snow Software

An announcement was made in November 2023 that took the industry by surprise and has captivated the industry's attention.

Flexera and Snow announced a definitive agreement whereby Flexera intends to acquire Snow software on November 28, this year.  Since then, both companies have been selling this idea as 'a big win for customers and partners of both companies', but there is no denying that this news does bring its fair share of uneasiness in the industry.  Flexera for one has always marketed itself as a more enterprise-level SAM tool, where Snow software have played a wider hand with regards to their client base.  The CEO of Flexera described it well when he said they 'have different centres of gravity...'.  It will be interesting to see the merged strategy moving forward and whether this will bring some sugar-coated price increases in the upcoming years for existing Snow customers.

There is no arguing that the pooling of resources of these two giants in the Software Asset Management community, has the potential to  yield something great.  But there is an equally good chance that any true advantages of this acquisition will be many years in the making.  Provided they do things correctly.  There are many companies out there that have had technology mergers create complication and become a disjointed addition to their solutions.  Let's hope this becomes the exception to the rule!

But it isn't a done deal yet, the agreement is still 'subject to customary closing conditions'.  Flexera...Snow....we are holding our breath.
